Chasing 3000

Chasing 3000 is a 2008 film chronicling the cross-country travel of two boys to see the 3,000th base hit of Major League Baseball legend Roberto Clemente. It stars Trevor Morgan, Rory Culkin, and Ray Liotta.

I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. As a kid, I took every opportunity I could to go see the Pirates play at Forbes Field. Fifty cents for a bleacher seat down the leftfield foul line was obtainable. Dad always had change in his suit pockets. Roberto Clemente, the Great One, was a young kid's idol. The way he caught a fly ball, the way he ran the bases, the quirky movement of his head and neck at the plate, hey we all emulated his play. I didn't "chase" 3000, but I saw many of them on the way to 3000.
